There has been traffic about the DEC Alpha which is, indeed,
a powerful & interesting machine.
I'd just like to suggest the "low"-end SMP boxes might
provide another type of alternative: chip-independent Symmetrical
Multi-Processing is built into NT. V-Tech, for example, has a
two-processor (486-66) system that comes with 16 MB memmory, 500 MB
disk, double-spin CD ROM and a monitor with NT installed for $3K. Is
there some reason this is not an attractive box for lightwave work?
